Wondering where to spend your next vacation? Why not try infinity pools? These pools have been popular since 1990’s and are also known as zero edge pools, negative edge, and vanishing edge. It got its name from the illusion that it creates, wherein the edge of the pool seems to be vanishing or extending in the horizon. The water overflows in the edge for best effect and it spills down to a trough where it will be pumped back into the pool.

Cost

The cost of constructing an infinity edge pool is more expensive than ordinary pools. It requires more extensive structural engineering and its design should be carefully analyzed before construction. Several luxury hotels afford to build infinity edge pools as attraction, while some wealthy homeowners choose to have one at home.

Best Locations

To create the illusion of a vanishing edge pool, it should be located near or in view of the sky, mountains, or extending over the ocean. Some build negative edge pools in skyscraper’s roof where swimmers would seem to be falling off its edge. Some nature lovers prefer those built near cliffs and mountains.

Best Infinity Edge Pools around the World

In Singapore, there are several luxury hotels that have infinity edge pools on top of its building, giving swimmers a good view of the city. However, if you want to be closer to nature you can try the Ubud Hanging Gardens in Bali, Indonesia where you can see the mountains while swimming in a natural cliffside-inspired pool. A few resorts in the Philippines feature negative edge pools that extend into the beautiful blue ocean. Lots of breath-taking vanishing edge pools can also be found in Mexico, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey, and Tahiti.
